Can I use my router as a PC or Xbox receiver?

Hello. The question is very interesting for an ordinary person.

There is a router at home, it hangs separately at the entrance to the house. Also at home are laptops, computers, phones and Xbox.

In order to have the Internet on the computer, you always have to use the access point from the phone via USB.

Accordingly, the question is how to connect the new router to the computer through the main router? Or to the Xbox for the internet to work. And what is required for this.

Best regards and gratitude, Sergei Ivanov.

Answer

Hello. I understand you correctly, do you want to use the second router as a Wi-Fi network receiver from the main router for a stationary computer, or Xbox?

Many routers allow you to do this. The Client (Adapter) operating mode is best suited for this. It is possible to organize this in bridge mode. When the router connects to a WI-Fi network and distributes the Internet via cable to the same PC or Xbox. But you did not write what kind of router you have, so I can't tell you anything specific. The scheme, to be honest, is so-so.

For a computer, it's best to buy a USB Wi-Fi adapter. How to connect all this and how it works, I wrote here. You can read how to choose a PC adapter here.

It's hard to tell anything on Xbox. Doesn't this set-top box have built-in WI-FI? Maybe the external module can also be purchased separately.
