Hello. I have a TP-Link TL-WN723N USB adapter that I want to use on my laptop - Dell Latitude E7250, my OS is Windows 8.1 Enterprise. I installed the latest drivers for the USB adapter and the TP-Link utility for these purposes, followed your instructions for creating an access point in the utility, at first I opened the wrong one, and created a profile in this utility that was not for distributing the Internet, only then I realized it.

Then, according to your instructions, after a bunch of attempts and errors in the utility, it was possible to establish a connection (gave access to the appeared TP-Link local network to the Ethernet connection), everything worked, then I decided to check with the Windows command line, too, according to your instructions, if I could start the distribution and so on, to do this, I disconnected all connections from Ethernet, exited the utility and took out the adapter, Windows of course resisted the netsh start command .. and I realized that this would not work, I decided not to fiddle with this business, entered the necessary stop command .. and inserted the USB adapter back , began to configure the program, the distribution connections were the same as for the first time, but since then unsuccessfully .. throws out constant "Failed to configure ICS" errors since then, the local network did not appear in the connections, access to Ethernet opened, permissions the program is all exposed, runs on behalf of the administrator, turned off the firewalls, even removed the antivirus, cleaned the register, etc. ... even downloaded third-party programs (MyFreeWiFi, etc.) Do not give errors (does the system need a USB adapter for them to work? ) I am ready to share with you the necessary screenshots, I do not understand at all what could have gone wrong, I could not break anything in Windows so that it would give constant errors, and at first I managed to do everything normally .. I am waiting for your answer ..

PS - Happy New Year!

Answer

Hello. Happy New Year!

To begin with, without a Wi-Fi adapter, you will not be able to launch a virtual access point (Soft AP) and distribute Wi-Fi from a laptop. If I understand correctly, when you started the access point through the command line, then the TP-Link TL-WN723N USB adapter was disabled. Well, since you have a laptop, it also has Wi-Fi (built-in module). You haven't written anything about it. Is it disabled in the device manager, or is it broken / missing altogether? It's just not entirely clear why you still need TP-Link TL-WN723N.

... to do this, disconnected all Ethernet connections, exited the utility and removed the adapter

What exactly, where and why did you disconnect? And why did you remove the adapter?

Windows of course resisted the netsh start .. command.

What error was appearing?

entered the required stop command ..

The team netsh wlan stop hostednetwork? Why, because you could not start the distribution. Most likely due to the fact that the Wi-Fi adapter has been disabled.

the local network did not appear in the connections, access to Ethernet opened

Again, I don't understand how you could open shared access in the "Ethernet" connection properties, if the adapter responsible for the operation of the access point did not appear.

does the system need a USB adapter for them to work?

Sure! Without it, neither the standard TP-Link utility nor third-party programs can work. In the same way, it will not work to start the distribution in the command line.

First, disable sharing in the "Ethernet" properties. It is also advisable to reset the network settings. Then connect the Wi-Fi adapter and try starting the access point through the command line (link to the instructions above). Disable your antivirus (if it is currently installed) and preferably also Windows Firewall.

The very error "Failed to configure ICS, you can connect to SoftAP, but to share the internet service will may be some problem" (do you have such a full error text?) Indicates problems with the Internet sharing settings. That is, the laptop distributes Wi-Fi, but a network without access to the Internet.
