There is often a situation when in the process of configuring the router something does not work out, or you decide to configure the router for another provider, move it to another house, etc. In such cases, very often you need to change the settings, and in most cases it is much easier configure the router again. To do this, you need to do a factory reset. In this article, we will be doing a factory reset on a Linksys router. I'll show you the example of the Linksys E1200 model. It is not yet possible to show the factory reset process on all Linksys devices, but the process is virtually the same.

After a factory reset, your router will be like new and will need to be configured again. In most cases, everyone resets when they forget their password. If you have forgotten the password for the Wi-Fi network, you can still recover it somehow. Go to the settings by cable, or look from another connected device. But if you forget the username and password from entering the settings, then it is easier to reset the settings to factory defaults on your Linksys.

By the way, you can throw off the settings in two ways: using the button on the router case and through the control panel. Let's consider both options.

Factory reset on a Linksys router

If you cannot get into the settings of the router, then the easiest way is to do a hard reset with the Reset button, which is located on the body of the router. The Reset button is recessed into the body. For example, on Linksys E1200 it is on the bottom, and it looks like this:

The button must be pressed with something sharp and held for about 10 seconds. The router must be powered on. Press the button and look at the indicators, they should all light up and go out. The router will reboot and restore factory settings.

Restoring factory settings through the control panel

We go into the settings of our Linksys, go to the tabAdministrationFactory settings... Click the buttonRestore factory settings... Press to confirm Ok.

A message appears that the factory settings have been successfully restored. Wait for the router to reboot and you can refresh the settings page.
