Can't configure a Zyxel router with a D-Link 2520U ADSL modem

Hello, I ran into a problem that I could not find on your site.

The thing is, I have an ADSL connection. And to set up a Wifi network at home, I had to install an ADSL modem and connect a Wifi router from it. I set it up for a long time and everything worked fine, but something happened and everything flew.

The problem is that both the modem and the router have the same IP address. Therefore, when I want to configure a router, I always get to the modem by the IP address. It happens that somehow I find myself in the router's web configurator, but this is not for long.

Therefore, in order to access the Internet from a PC, I had to configure a modem. In this case, the PC is connected to the modem only through a router, i.e. there is internet, but no Wifi.

I don't know how to fix this, what to do about it. My router is Zyxel KEENETIC Lite, and the modem is D-Link 2520U. Maybe you wrote about something similar? Or maybe you know how to set it all up?

I hope I have explained the problem clearly. Thanks in advance.

Answer

Hello. The scheme is not complicated, everything should work. There are several options that you can use to connect your router to an ADSL modem.

  1. When the cable is on the modem, in your case, we connect the D-Link 2520U to the WAN port of the router.
  2. And when the cable is connected to the LAN port, and the router works as an access point.

It's bad that you didn't write how everything was connected before. The main thing is that the Internet from the ADSL modem via cable works. For example, when connected to a computer.

First of all, I advise you to do a factory reset on the Zyxel Keenetic lite. So that the parameters that are already possibly set there do not interfere with us.

Next, you need to connect the router to the computer via cable, go to the settings and you can change the IP address of the Zyxel Keenetic lite router. We just change the number from "1" to "2".

We connect the cable from the D-Link 2520U modem to the WAN (Internet) port of Zyxel Keenetic. Everything, the Internet should work. You can enter the Zyxel settings at 192.168.2.1.

Zyxel Connection Option with ADSL Modem with LAN Connection

In the Zyxel settings, you need to disable the DHCP server. This is done like this:

And we connect the cable from the modem to one of the LAN ports of the Zyxel router.

The IP address of the router can be found and viewed in the list of connected devices in the D-Link 2520U control panel.

There is also an option with the "Access Point" operating mode. It is enough to enable the "Access Point" operating mode in the Zyxel Keenetic setup.

After that, we connect the cable from the modem to the LAN port of the router.

Sergey, if something is not clear, then ask in the comments.
