In an article with general information on entering the settings of the router, I briefly wrote about the most popular problems and their solutions that are encountered in the process of entering the settings of Wi-Fi routers. The most common problem is when the settings page at 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.1.1 (depending on the router) does not open. In this article, I want to consider in detail all the possible reasons why the page with the router settings may not open for you. Of course, I will tell you how you can solve these problems and how to determine what is wrong.

We will start with the most popular error when, when trying to access the router's settings, after going to the address 192.168.0.1 (192.168.1.1), an inscription appears that the page cannot be opened, or the page is inaccessible. Something like this:

Let's consider solutions for connecting via cable and Wi-Fi. This will be a general article, therefore, it is suitable for routers of all manufacturers.

Before looking for a solution to your problem, I advise you to try to go into the settings of your router according to the detailed instructions. Perhaps you are just doing something wrong.

If you are doing everything correctly, but does not enter the settings, then now we will understand.

The settings of the router at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 do not open

This is the main, most popular problem. You connected everything, type the IP address of the router, and an error appears in the browser: "The page is not available", "Unable to display page", "Page not found" etc. The error text depends on the browser from which you are trying to access the settings.

Honestly, such nonsense can appear due to many different problems:

  1. No connection to the router (bad cable, no drivers for the network card / Wi-Fi adapter, no Wi-Fi connection, wrong connection, etc.)
  2. Incorrect connection settings (automatic obtaining IP is not set)
  3. Attempting to access settings on the wrong IP address
  4. The address 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.0.1 may not open due to the fact that the IP address of the router has been changed, or the router is not working properly.

Before moving on to specific solutions and bothering yourself with some complex settings, I advise perform such simple actions:

  • Try opening the settings from a different browser.
  • Make sure the router is powered on.
  • Restart your computer and Wi-Fi router.
  • If possible, try accessing 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 from another device. You can even connect from a tablet or phone via Wi-Fi.
  • You can try disabling your antivirus and firewall.

If this does not help, then we will check more complex reasons.

Determine the IP address of the router: 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.1.1

First of all, I recommend making sure that you are trying to open the correct IP address in your browser. Different router manufacturers use different addresses to access settings. Typically, this address is located on the bottom of the router, on a sticker. It looks something like this:

Look on your device, this information should be there. If not, then look at the articles on accessing the settings on devices from different manufacturers (I gave links at the beginning of this article). Or just try 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1. Also, the address can be of the form tplinkwifi.net, http://netis.cc, etc.

If you have a Xiaomi Mi WiFi router and you cannot enter its settings, then this is most likely because they have the address 192.168.31.1. Or miwifi.com.

Check if a connection to the router is established

Everything is very simple. To enter the settings, you need to connect to the router. If there is no connection, then the settings will not open.

If the connection is via a network cable (LAN), then immediately after connecting the computer to the router, the status of the Internet connection should look like this (if "without Internet access", then this is normal):

If you see a different connection status after connecting (a computer with a red cross, etc.), despite the fact that you want to enter the settings via cable, then you have not established a connection to the Wi-Fi router.

Possible solutions

Check if everything is connected correctly. On the router, the network cable must be connected to the LAN connector, and on the computer or laptop, to the network card. Like this:

If everything is good there, then the problem may still be in the bad cable, if possible, try replacing it. Also, if the connection status differs from those that I showed in the screenshot above, then it is possible that you do not have the driver installed on the network card, or it is broken. In such cases, I would advise, if possible, to try to access the address 192.168.1.1 (192.168.0.1) from another device.

If you have a Wi-Fi connection (from a computer, laptop), then the connection status after connecting to your network should look like this:

If you have another one, then there is no connection. Again, there may be a problem with the wireless adapter drivers. In detail about connecting a computer to a Wi-Fi network, I wrote in this article: how to connect a laptop (computer) to the Internet via Wi-Fi? Problems connecting to Wi-Fi.

Let me remind you that the status "Without Internet access", this is normal. Perhaps the Internet on the router has not yet been configured. You don't need an Internet connection to access your router's control panel.

We check the settings for obtaining an IP address, if it does not go into the settings of the router

If a static IP address is set on your computer in the connection properties (via cable or Wi-Fi), then most likely the computer cannot establish a connection with the router. You need to set the automatic acquisition of an IP address for the connection through which you connect.

For details on how to check the IP settings on Windows 7 and Windows 8, I wrote in the article: checking the local and wireless network settings in Windows before configuring the Wi-Fi router. Everything is detailed there.

Please note that if you are unable to enter the settings when connecting via cable, then check the "Local Area Connection" (Ethernet) settings. And if you try to access Wi-Fi, then "Wireless network connection" (Wireless network in Windows 10)

Now I will quickly demonstrate everything.

Click on the Internet connection icon (it may differ for you) and select Network and Sharing Center.

In the new window, on the left, selectChange adapter settings.

Further attention, right-click on the connection through which you are connected to the router (wrote about this above) and select Properties (I show with an example of a Wi-Fi connection).

Highlight the item Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4) and press the button Properties... We check if the automatic obtaining of IP and DNS is set. If not, we expose. Push Ok.

If you changed the parameters, then it is advisable to restart the computer.

Another way (update)

Go to "My Computer" ("This PC" in Windows 10), or simply open Explorer and go to the "Network" tab. Your router should appear in the "Network Infrastructure" section.

Then just right-click on it and select "View device web page".

A browser will open and the router page will automatically load.

This method will work if, for example, the IP address of the router is changed, and for this reason it was not possible to enter the web interface.

Enters the settings, but the username and password are incorrect

I have prepared a separate article on this issue: the admin password at 192.168.1.1 (192.168.0.1) does not work. The problem is that the settings page opens, or rather the authorization page opens, and when you enter the username and password, the router writes that they are incorrect, or the page will simply reload.

In such cases, you need to try to specify the standard data, which is most likely indicated on the bottom of the router on the sticker. Typically the username is used - admin and the password is admin (empty field, 1234).

If these data do not fit, then most likely the username and / or password have been changed, and if you do not know them, you will have to reset the router settings to the factory settings. For example, here's how to do it on Tp-Link. We also have instructions for other manufacturers. Perhaps, someone else just configured the router and didn't tell you the passwords.

It may be that your router is "okay". For example, after an unsuccessful firmware. You can try to restore it. See this manual. For Tp-Link routers only (and not for all models).

It is not necessary to exclude a breakdown of the router. Pay attention to the operation of the indicators, if they do not flash as usual, then it is possible that your device is out of order. If you have tried all the tips, and you still cannot enter the settings, then describe your problem in the comments, we will figure it out.
