Wi-Fi distribution on laptop disappears

This article will be devoted to solving one problem that many face when distributing the Internet via Wi-Fi from a laptop or desktop computer. The problem looks like this: we launch a virtual Wi-Fi network, and the computer distributes Wi-Fi. We connect our devices to this network and use the Internet. But, after some time, the Wi-Fi network disappears. The laptop stops distributing the Internet. And you need to restart the network. In articles on setting up an access point, I have already seen such comments more than once.

The problem could be anything, but most likely, the wireless adapter is simply turned off to save energy. Accordingly, the virtual Wi-Fi network also disappears. Now I will show you how to prevent the virtual adapter from being disabled to save energy. This method should help.

If you still do not know how to start Wi-Fi distribution, then see a separate article on setting up an access point on Windows 7, and instructions on starting a virtual Wi-Fi network on Windows 10. These are instructions on setting up Wi-Fi distribution via the command line. Everything is very simple there. But, if you want, you can configure the access point using special programs.

Why is the virtual Wi-Fi network disabled?

On the notification bar, right-click on the internet connection icon. Select "Network and Sharing Center". Then, go to "Change adapter settings".

Next, right-click on the virtual network adapter and select Properties. It will be signed as "Wireless Network Connection *" (with a number at the end). In Windows 10, this adapter will be called "Local Area Connection *".

Click on the "Configure" button.

Go to the "Power Management" tab, and uncheck the box next to the "Allow this device to be turned off to save energy" item. Click "Ok".

After these settings, the Wi-Fi distribution should no longer disappear. You can start the network and leave your laptop, it will distribute the Internet to your devices.

Update: Disable IPv6 for the Virtual Adapter

In the comments below, Ivan suggested an interesting solution. You must disable IPv6 support in the wireless virtual connection properties.

In the "Network Connections" window, right-click on "Local Area Connection * 59" (you may have a different number) and select "Properties". This connection appears after starting the Wi-Fi network distribution in Windows.

Uncheck the box next to "IP version 6 (TCP / IPv6)" and click on the "Ok" button.

Ivan disabled this protocol in the properties of both Wi-Fi connections. If you have a problem with Wi-Fi disconnections on devices that connect to an access point running in Windows, this method has not been solved, then try disabling the IPv6 protocol for the "Wireless Network" adapter. But I don't think you have to do it.

If you know any other solutions, or you still have questions, then write in the comments. Good luck!
