Why does TP-Link TL-WR841N not work with Huawei HG8245A ADSL Modem?

Good afternoon! Please help with this question: I can't configure Internet access via the TP-Link TL-WR841N Wi-Fi router, which is connected to the LAN port of the Huawei HG8245A router.

With a similar connection to the Zyxel P660RU2EE ADSL router - TP-Link LAN port to Zyxel LAN port with a cable - everything works great without any additional settings. The only configuration difference when working with the HG8245A is the network addresses like 192.168.100.1 for the HG8245A and 192.168.1.1 for the Zyxel.

Turning on and off the DHCP server, changing the network connection settings (automatic IP and manually) does not help. In the HG8245A connection table, the IP and MAC addresses of the WR841N are not displayed, all the rest of the equipment is registered, even the one that is not currently connected (but was previously connected) appears in the User device table with the online status for those connected (both via LAN and the built-in wi-fi HG8245A ).

Tell me what else you can try to change in the settings of these devices? For some reason, a laptop with Windows 7 also perceives two connections (LAN and WiFi) as different networks, and when working with Zyxel, both connections are displayed on the same network with one gateway.

I really hope for help - I can't find any additional information on this issue.

Thanks!

Answer

Good afternoon. Many important points I could not understand from your description.

I don't really understand why you connect the network cable on the TP-Link TL-WR841N to the LAN port. So it is also possible in a trailer, then TL-WR841N will be like an access point. But in your circuit, it is better to connect the router with the Huawei HG8245A modem from LAN to WAN. Perhaps everything will work right away and the problem will be solved.

On TP-Link TL-WR841N, I recommend doing a factory reset. And do not change anything else in its settings, immediately connect the cable from the modem to the WAN port. If Huawei HG8245A is configured correctly, it automatically distributes IP addresses, then everything will definitely work.

Or the second option: in the settings of the TL-WR841N router (in the "Network" - "LAN" section) we change its IP address to 192.168.100.50 (for example), and in the "DHCP" section we disable the DHCP server. We save the settings, reboot the router and connect it to the modem using the LAN-LAN scheme.

Read more in the article How to make a router a Wi-Fi access point. There is an instruction for TP-Link to change the IP address and disable DHCP.

In general, the scheme is very simple. And everything should work without any problem. Provided that the Huawei HG8245A modem does not have any special settings.
