Why does the Internet in a laptop not work via a cable (Windows 7)?

Hello! The situation is as follows, the laptop is fresh a week after reinstalling the operating system. Installed Windows 7. Connected from the first day via Wi-fi, no problems arose (Internet from Beeline).

It was necessary to connect the laptop to the Internet directly via a cable. the speed through the router is bad. The wire is inserted into the laptop and there is no connection.

The LAN connection icon did not appear in the lower right corner (in the form of a monitor). The wireless icon remained the same. Before reinstalling Windows, there were never such problems, they inserted the wire and the Internet immediately worked, there was no need to make additional movements.

Beeline technical support was first advised to install the settings wizard from Beeline, but it did not help. As a result, they said that it was not about them, but about the absence of an Internet driver. Since the "Local Area Connection" icon itself is missing in the network connections.

Tell me what driver are you talking about? How can this be, if there is no driver, wifi would work?

Answer

Hello. Yes, there is no Local Area Connection in the Network Connections window on your laptop. But this is understandable, since in the device manager you do not have a network card on the "Network adapters" tab. There is only a virtual mini-port WI-FI adapter, the WI-FI module itself and two adapters associated with Bluetooth. And the network card is not there. You can read the article why there is no network adapter in the device manager.

Therefore, the Internet via WI-FI on a laptop works, but not via cable. And the strangest thing is that in the device manager in the screenshot I do not see any unknown devices, one of which could be a network card. This happens when Windows cannot automatically install the driver for some adapter.

The network card on your laptop appears to be disabled or broken. But I don't think there can be such a coincidence. Have you tried downloading the driver on the LAN from the laptop manufacturer's website for a specific model, Windows 7, and installing it? Have you changed the settings in the BIOS? Maybe they accidentally disconnected the network card. True, I'm not sure that there is such a possibility.

Perhaps this article will also come in handy: what driver is needed for a network card (Ethernet controller).
