Connecting to a network drive through a second router

The Internet from the modem goes through a switch. Two Xiaomi 3G routers are connected to it, which are located at different ends of the apartment and have different names of points (point 1 and point 2). An HDD is connected to one of the routers, which successfully works within its network (point 1). Network diagram:

Question: How to connect to a network drive (point 1 HDD) if the computer is connected to the network - point 2?

Notes:

  • Not using the repeater mode, since in this case the Internet speed in the whole apartment will be limited by the bandwidth of the main router.
  • Access from a network drive must be on the local network, and not through the provider and global.
  • And is this scheme possible with the connection to the HDD if the routers have the same network names and passwords?

I would be very grateful for your help in resolving the issue!

Answer

Hello. I understood the question. Thanks for the detailed description and diagram.

In this case, there is no difference, the same Wi-Fi network names and passwords on the routers, or different. The point is that devices that are connected to different routers are not on the same subnet. Therefore, on the computer that is connected to the second Xiaomi 3G router, there is no access to the USB disk that is connected to the first Xiaomi 3G router. Two routers create two different local area networks that are not connected to each other.

I have no way to build such a circuit and check everything.

I think this scheme will only work if the second router is not connected via a switch, but to the first router (via cable, without repeater mode).

On the second router Xiaomi Mi Router 3G, you need to disable the DHCP server, and change the last digit of the IP address (so that there is no conflict in the network).

The cable from the first router must be connected to one of the LAN ports on the second (if it does not work, you can try on the WAN). It turns out the LAN-LAN scheme. The second router will act as an access point.

If you turn off the DHCP server on both routers, change the IP address on one of them and connect the cable from the switch to the LAN, then access to the Internet will most likely be (the modem will be the main one, it will distribute IP addresses), but it is unlikely there will be access to a network drive. Alternatively, you can check.

I have no other ideas. We can correspond in the comments below.
