On the Tp-Link router, only the power indicator is on and does not enter the settings

Hello! Let's talk in this article about Tp-Link routers, and the problem that often happens to them. When the indicators on the router stop burning, only the power indicator is on, the router does not work, well, of course, you cannot enter the settings (to the address 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.0.1). I want to note right away that this problem happens not only with Tp-Link routers. Devices from other companies also suffer from breakdowns with these symptoms.

As a rule, when such a problem appears, only power (power indicator) is lit on the Tp-Link router. In some cases, the indicator in the form of a gear is still on. It is clear that Wi-Fi is not distributed, and it does not enter the router settings. Neither wifi nor cable. The problem is really serious, and I will say right away that there is no concrete, easy and working solution. If there are two indicators on your router: power and a gear, then this is still half the trouble. But if only the power indicator is on on your Tp-Link, then most likely you will need to carry it to the service, under warranty (if any).

I also want to note that the problems that I described above most often appear on the TL-WR841ND and TL-WR741ND models. Although, it seems to me that this is most likely due to the fact that these are the most popular models. And problems, when only the power light is on, appear on other models of this manufacturer.

Such a problem may appear just like that, everything worked, the Internet was gone and that's it. Also, very often the router stops working after a thunderstorm, some kind of power failure, or just a power outage. Well, after an unsuccessful firmware. In simple terms, there are times when the software just crashes. In such cases, you can try to restore Tp-Link yourself, now I will tell you how. But, when the router does not work, and only one indicator is on -power, then most likely this is already a technical breakdown. Simply put, something burned out on the router board itself, or something with a power adapter. In such cases, it is better to contact the service, or just buy a new router.

Tp-Link (TL-WR841ND, TL-WR741ND and others): only one Power LED is on

A few tips for this problem:

  • First, unplug and re-power your router several times.
  • Try resetting your Tp-Link using this instruction.
  • If your Tp-Link router has two LEDs (power and gear) and you have one of these models: TL-MR3220v2, TL-WR842ND, Archer C7 AC1750 v2, TL-WR740Nv4, TL-WR941NDv5, TL-WDR4300ND, TL -WR1042ND, TL-WR940NDv2, TL-WR841NDv8, TL-WDR3600ND, TL-WR741NDv4, TL-MR3420v2, you can try to restore it yourself. How to do this, I wrote in the detailed instructions: https://help-wifi.com/tp-link/kak-vosstanovit-router-tp-link-posle-neudachnoj-proshivki/ If only one power indicator is on, then to be honest , I do not know if it will be possible to restore the router in this way. You can also try.
  • There is a way to restore the router via Serial Console. The method is very complicated: you need a special cable, you need to disassemble, solder, etc. It is easier to send the router for repair, or buy a new one.
  • You can try replacing the power adapter if you have one.
  • If all else fails, and the router is under warranty, then of course you need to contact the service. Yes, it is problematic, yes for a long time, but you have the right to it. Let them figure it out, fix it, or return the money. If your Internet provider gave you the router, you can call their support and ask for advice on what to do in such a situation.
  • If there is no guarantee, then there are two options: take it for repair, or buy a new one. If you have an inexpensive model, for example the same TL-WR741ND, then it will probably be easier to buy a new one. It is not clear how much the repair will cost, and how long the router will work after this repair. You can give it to the service, let them look and say the cost of the repair. And you have already decided whether to repair or buy a new router.

If resetting and restoring according to the instructions did not help, then there are two options left: buying a new router, or contacting workshops and service centers (under warranty). Maybe you have some interesting information, or personal experience on this breakdown, share information in the comments.
