If your Internet provider provides IPTV service, then you need to set up a router to watch interactive television. In this article, we will look at setting up IPTV on an Asus router.

You can watch IPTV through a router in several ways:

  • Through a special attachment.
  • On a computer, when connected to a router via a network cable.
  • And you can also set up IPTV playback on a laptop, tablet, Smart TV, etc., when connected via a Wi-Fi network.

Now we will take a closer look at these settings using the example of Asus routers.

As for watching interactive television through an STB set-top box, everything is simple here. We set the number of the LAN port to which the set-top box is connected in the router settings, and you're done. Well, to watch TV on a computer via cable, or in the case of distributing IPTV via Wi-Fi, a special player will need to be used on a computer (or other device). The most popular are PC Player and IPTV Player.

I would like to write separately about IPTV support by Asus routers. Support is available on almost all models. But, do not forget that watching interactive television, especially over a Wi-Fi network, creates a large load on the router. The speed of the Internet connection may also drop. Therefore, if you plan to run IPTV through a router, then it is best not to save money on the router. I will show using the example of setting up the Asus RT-N18U model, and the older RT-N13U (it has a different blue firmware). This manual will work for almost all routers from this company: RT-N66U, RT-N12, RT-N14U, RT-N10, etc.

IPTV through an Asus router using a set-top box

This is probably the most popular way. Everything is set up very simply. Connect to the router and go to its control panel. If you do not know how to enter the settings of the Asus router, then you can see the detailed instructions at this link.

If you have a router with a new firmware, dark, then go to the tab The local networkIPTV... In the dropdown menuIPTV STB port selection select the number of one or two LAN ports to which the set-top box will be connected. If you select two ports, then two set-top boxes can be connected. Click the button Apply to save the settings.

If you have a router with an older, blue firmware, then in the control panel open the tab WAN, and in the "Select IPTV STB port" menu, specify the required port. Click the button Apply.

These are all the settings that need to be set on the Asus router for IPTV to work through a set-top box. We just enabled the post mode between LAN and WAN ports.

Watching IPTV via Wi-Fi and LAN cable through an Asus router

These settings will come in handy when you plan to watch interactive television on your computer or laptop when connected to a router via a network cable or Wi-Fi network. Through a special player, which I wrote about at the beginning of this article. It will also be possible to watch IPTV on smartphones, tablets, TVs with Smart TVs, etc.

First, let's take a look at the setup on routers with ASUSWRT firmware (which is dark). In the settings, open the tab The local networkIPTV.

  • The item "Enable multicast routing (IGMP Proxy)" is set to "Enable"
  • Opposite "Enable IGMP Snooping", also select "Enable". Thus, we enable Multicast on the Asus router
  • In the "UDP Proxy (Udpxy)" field, write "1234".

Click the button Apply.

Now you can watch TV on those devices that are connected to the router via a LAN cable.

If you need to broadcast IPTV over a Wi-Fi network:

Go to the tab Wireless networkProfessionally... Find the menu item "Enable IGMP Snooping" there and set "Enable". And from the Multicast Data Rate (Mbps) menu, select"OFDM 24".

If you have any problems with playing interactive television over Wi-Fi, then set back to Auto.

Click the button Apply to save the settings.

After these settings, the TV over the wireless network should work stably.

If you have a router with an old control panel

To enable IGMP (Multicast) support, open the tab LANRoute... Opposite to "Enable Multicast Routing?" install Yes and press the button Apply.

For a stable broadcast of television wirelessly, go to the tab Wireless networkProfessionally... Opposite "Multicast data rate (Mbps)" select "24". Do not forget to save the settings with the Apply.

That's it, the setup is complete.

If you have any problems in setting up IPTV, then try connecting the cable from the Internet provider directly to the computer and check the work. To exclude a router. Perhaps this is some kind of problem on the side of the provider, or something in the computer.
