Xiaomi mini WiFi is an excellent home router option for a very good price. But, he has a small minus. This is a Chinese control panel. The fact is that there is no official, Russian firmware for the Xiaomi mini router, and most likely there will not be. But, there is an English firmware. And there are two ways you can flash your Xiaomi router, and after this procedure, the control panel will be in English. Agree, this is already easier than Chinese characters. I have already checked everything on my router, and now I will show you how to do it.
A little advice. If you already have a router configured, and the Internet works through it, then you can go to the control panel, for example, from Yandex Browser, and it will translate all the settings from Chinese into Russian or Ukrainian for you.
The translation is not perfect, but everything is clear.
In general, there are Russian firmware for Xiaomi mini WiFi, but not official, but the structure. For example, OpenWRT (PandoraBox), Padavan. Perhaps later I will write how to install them. But, the installation process there is not entirely simple.
Installing the English version of the firmware on Xiaomi mini WiFi
So, our article is purely on installing the English version. And there are two ways:
- The first is changing the region in the Wi-Fi settings to Europe, and updating the firmware. But not manually, namely when the router itself downloads and installs it. For some reason I couldn't do it this way.
- And the second way is to download the English firmware and install it on the Xiaomi mini router. True, there is the latest firmware version 2.8.91, and the official website already has 2.12.3. I downloaded the firmware from the w3bsit3-dns.com forum. I did not understand where to get the new version of the English firmware, because it is not on the official website.
The first method: changing the Wi-Fi region and updating the software
Go to your router settings at miwifi.com. If it doesn't work, see the article on how to enter the settings of a Xiaomi router. On the authorization page, enter the password for the control panel. If you installed it. In the settings, go to the following menu items:
Scroll down the page to the very bottom, and in the drop-down menu select the last item (this is Europe).
A message will appear. Click on the blue button (which is on the left). The router will reboot.
Then go back to the settings, and open the following sections:
Attention! Your settings will be in Chinese. I just have a screenshot from the English version.
We wait a bit for the router to determine if there is a new firmware (important! The router must be connected to the Internet), and click on the blue button that should appear. We are waiting for 5-8 minutes while the firmware is downloaded and installed. If the blue button does not appear, or after updating the settings, everything will be exactly in Chinese, then use the second method.
Manual software update
First of all, you need to download the firmware file. The file itself, which I took from w3bsit3-dns.com, can be downloaded from this link. Version 2.8.91. If you know where you can download the new version of the English firmware, please write in the comments.
After you download the archive, extract the firmware file itself with the extension .bin from it.
Go to the router settings, and do everything as shown in the screenshot below. In the same sequence.
If the version that you will install is lower than the one that is already installed, the router will offer you to reset the settings to the factory defaults. And after the firmware, you will need to configure it again. If you want to reset, then put a checkmark and click on the blue button. According to the idea, if the checkbox is not checked, the settings will not be reset.
And then we need to wait.
Moreover, you really need to wait 5-8 minutes. Until your device reconnects to the router (if you update via Wi-Fi). The settings page should be updated. If the router settings have been reset, a menu will appear in which you will be asked to set a password for Wi-Fi, change the name of the Wi-Fi network, and set a password for protecting the control panel. This setting can be changed through the control panel, in the appropriate sections.
