Hello! There is one local network for 150 computers to which two HG630 V2 Home Gateway modems are connected. On one of them the DNS server is disabled, and on the other it is enabled. Some of the IP addresses are static, others are assigned by one of the modems. The wireless network is enabled on each modem, but on the modem where the DNS server is disabled, the devices do not connect (smartphones). Could there be a reason that the DNS server is disabled and what is the best way to connect them in this case? Thanks!

Answer

Hello. Yes, the devices most likely do not connect because the DHCP server on the HG630 V2 Home Gateway is disabled. The modem simply does not provide IP and the devices cannot connect. There are two solutions:

  • Enable DHCP server on the modem. After that, it will automatically distribute IP addresses and the devices will connect.
  • Register IP settings manually on each mobile device. In your case, on smartphones.

Why would you want to turn off DHCP? The modem is not connected in the access point mode, as I understand it.
