We continue to get acquainted with routers from Netis, and today we will review and configure the MW5230 model. I recently wrote about this router in the article setting up a USB 3G / 4G modem on a Netis MW5230 router. Since at the moment this is the only router model from Netis that supports 3G / 4G modems, I decided to make a separate article on this topic. And in this article I will talk about the main features of this router, make a small overview and briefly go through its settings. Since Netis MW5230 can distribute the Internet not only from a USB modem, but also from a regular network cable. And this is the most popular way to connect to the Internet.
The first thing you pay attention to is the unusual appearance of this router. A small white box with three antennas, which are not located exactly as we are used to seeing on other routers. But we'll come back to design later.
The features and capabilities of the Netis MW5230 do not stand out in any way from competitors in this price range.
- Wi-Fi speed up to 300 Mbps.
- WAN and LAN ports can operate at speeds up to 100 Mbps.
- USB 2.0 port for connecting modems and USB storage devices. You can set up file sharing, FTP server, or DLNA. In the instructions on the link, I described in detail the process of configuring these functions.
- Three antennas. Non-removable. Power 5dBi. From my observations, I can say that the coverage is very good.
- Netis MW5230 can operate in different modes. As repeater, access point (AP), client, AP + WDS, WDS.
- Simple control panel in Russian.
A versatile inexpensive router that will be sufficient for most tasks. Internet connection is not limited by cable, you can always pick up and connect a wireless modem. For example, in the country. Or use Netis MW5230 to amplify a Wi-Fi network, as an adapter for connecting a PC or TV to a Wi-Fi network, etc.
Netis MW5230 Review
Let's start as usual - with the bundle. And as usual, we won't see anything new here 🙂 Because this is a router. Apart from the device itself, power adapter, network cable and instructions, nothing else is needed.
I haven't photographed the instructions, but they are. Even in Russian and Ukrainian. With pictures. Everything is written there in detail. What and how to connect, how to configure, how the LED indicators work, etc.
The entire router is made of white matte plastic. The build is good. The quality of the plastic is also good. The indicators are green.
The antenna is located on the side, on one side. The antennas fold in and turn. The router can be hung on the wall.
All ports and buttons are on the back. WPS / Default button, WAN port, 4 LAN ports, 1 USB port and power connector.
Below are the usual legs (not rubber), holes for ventilation, holes for hanging the router on the wall and a sticker with factory information: the name of the Wi-Fi network, password, address for entering settings, MAC address.
Everything can be connected and configured.
How to configure the Netis MW5230 router?
First, we connect everything. Internet to the WAN port, power to the PWR connector, and connect with a network cable to a computer or laptop.
If you do not have a computer, or a laptop (or the laptop does not have a LAN), then you can do without a cable. Connect to the router via Wi-Fi network. The network name (SSID) is indicated on the bottom of the router. The password is also there. The factory password is password.
To reset the Netis MW5230 settings, you need to hold down the WPS / Default button for 6-10 seconds.
I recommend doing this in the case when the router has already been configured before.
After connecting, launch any browser and go tohttp://netis.cc... You can see detailed instructions on how to enter the settings of the Netis router.
Change the language of the control panel. You can click on the "Advanced" button and go to the advanced settings, or in the same window, set the type of Internet connection (the necessary parameters, which you can find out from the provider), and configure the Wi-Fi network. Change username and password. Remember to save your settings.
The "Advanced" section contains all the settings. On the "Network" - "Access mode" tab, you need to select the router operation option. If the Internet is connected only via a network cable, then set "WAN only".
Connection to the provider (Internet) can be configured in the "Network" - "WAN" section.
If at this stage you have problems, for example, the Internet will not work through the router, then the article may come in handy: when setting up the router, it says "Without access to the Internet".
Check your internet connection type and settings. Also check with the provider if there is a MAC address binding.
Section "Wireless mode" - there you can set up a Wi-Fi network and a password.
Well, the last setting that I recommend doing is to set a password that will protect the settings of our Netis MW5230. This can be done in the "System" - "Password" section.
You can put any password. Just write it down. If you forget, you will not be able to enter the settings of the router. Then you will have to reset the settings to the factory settings.
