Weird Wi-Fi extender behavior

Hello!

I am trying to expand the Wi-Fi network in the apartment using a repeater.

There is a ZyXEL VMG1312-B and none of the three different repeaters (unnamed Chinese, ASUS RP-AC53, ZyXEL WRE2206) does not work with it.

External devices see the repeater network and connect, but no Internet traffic is coming. Some gadgets get stuck at the stage of obtaining IP, some get it, but then do not respond.

The strangest effect is with the ZyXEL WRE2206 repeater. It only works with one rounder and connects only to youtube.com. No other URLs are being revoked.

When connecting directly to the Wi-Fi network of the router, no problems are observed.

I would be glad for ideas.

Thanks!

Answer

Hello. Sorry for the slight delay in reply. The problem is really strange.

If you have three repeaters, and none of them distributes the Internet from the ZyXEL VMG1312-B, then I am almost sure that the problem is in the router itself. It would be nice, of course, to check repeaters with a different Wi-Fi network.

It seems to me that some non-standard settings may be set on the router. For example, blocking by MAC addresses is configured, or something else. If this is not difficult for you, then do a full reset of the ZyXEL VMG1312-B settings and configure it again. Set only basic settings: internet connection, Wi-Fi, password (security type WPA2-PSK). And try to reconnect the repeater. Reset the settings on the repeater as well.

I don't see any other options.
